Just over four years after their fairytale wedding in Tirana, Albania, Crown Prince Leka of the Albanians and his wife Crown Princess Elia became parents. Several weeks ago photos of them in the streets of Tirana showed up in the Albanian media, showing Crown Princess Elia with what looked like a baby bump. When inquiring at the Albanian Royal Court I was told: “The Albanian Royal Court is unable to confirm any media reports at this time. We will let you know if there will be an official statement.”
Well I didn’t have to wait too long. Just two weeks later the official announcement came.
The Albanian Royal Family is delighted to announce the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Geraldine, who was born to Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Leka of the Albanians and Crown Princess Elia, Thursday 22nd of October.
Crown Princess Elia was safely delivered at 09:30, [at] the “Queen Geraldine Maternity Hospital” in Tirana.
Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.
I wish the young family all the best and hope that we’ll see pictures of the newborn soon. The little princess was named after her great-grandmother Queen Geraldine of the Albanians, who coincidentally died exactly 18 years ago, on 22 October 2002, also in Tirana, Albania.
The first pictures of the parents with Geraldine were published on 30 October 2020. Her face will remain hidden until 40 days after the birth, as is the custom in Albania.
