GDPR – New Privacy Statement

I can’t imagine many people missed it. But since 25 May 2018 the new General Data Protection Regulation has gone into effect. The law was designed to harmonize the data privacy laws across Europe. It is supposed to protect and empower the data privacy of citizens of the European Union. Their website says the new GDPR “regulates the processing by an individual, a company or an organisation of personal data relating to individuals in the EU. It doesn’t apply to the processing of personal data of deceased persons or of legal entities.”

Although it is quite unclear to many people whether you should or shouldn’t do something with it, it can’t harm to put a privacy statement on your blog or website. Although the rules don’t apply to data processed by an individual for purely personal reasons or for activities carried out in one’s home, there is somewhat of a connection between my professional activities and the ones online as an individual. I have therefore decided to update my copyright statement a bit, and added quite a bit of privacy stuff there too. It just makes clearer what kind of data this blog (and website on a much lower level) collects. See here for my new Copyright & Privacy page.

I can assure you that if any personal information about visitors is being collected – and that is certainly not more than on any other normal site you visit – I do my utmost best to protect it. And otherwise I have a really good host, I know personally.
