Prince Berthold von Baden and Nina Schröder celebrated their religious wedding on 28 August 2021. Like his sister Princess Aglaë two years ago, Prince Berthold and his bride opted to get married at Amorbach Abbey (Abteikirche), Germany. The service was led by army chaplain Sandra Mehrl and pastor Theo Schneider. The witnesses were Marie Hilden, Juliane Schröder, Gesa Senst, Cordula Zielonka, Dr. Michael Liphart, Leopold Count Fugger-Babenhausen and Prince Michael von Baden. The flower children were Countess Maria Theodora, Countess Anna and Count Alexander zu Erbach-Fürstenau, as well as Emil and Fritz Schröder, Filippa and Victoria Wehner.
The bride wore the Fleur de Lys tiara of the groom’s great-grandmother Princess Marie Louise on the occasion of her marriage in 1900 to Margrave Max von Baden. The wedding gifts the couple received were back then exhibited in the castle of Cumberland in Gmunden, Austria. Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria sent a magnificent “crown” made of large diamonds. Marie Louise prefered wearing two large fleur de lys brooches set with large diamonds, but the matching crown was never worn. It was a surprise when Princess Aglaë in the summer of 2019 wore a tiara with five huge fleur de lys on top, Finally the wedding gift of the Emperor for Marie Louise had come to light. And I know many royal jewelry fans will be delighted to see it again.
Among the guests were Fürst Philipp and Fürstin Saskia zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Hereditary Prince Bernhard and Hereditary Princess Stephanie von Baden, Prince Michael von Baden, Prince Leopold von Baden, as well as Prince El Hassan and Princess Sarvath of Jordan, Fürst Aloys-Konstantin zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg, the Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Bartenstein and the Hereditary Prince zu Hohenlohe-Oehringen.
Berthold was born on 8 October 1976 in Heidelberg as the only son of Prince Ludwig von Baden (* 1937) and Princess Anna Maria (Marianne) von Auersperg-Breunner (* 1943). He has two sisters: Sophie (* 1975) and Aglaë (* 1981). His father is the younger son of Margrave Berthold von Baden (1906-1963) and Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark (1906-1969), a sister of the late Duke of Edinburgh. Margrave Berthold was a son of Margrave Max von Baden (1867-1929) and Princess Marie Louise of Hannover, Great Britain and Ireland (1879-1948). Princess Marianne von Auersperg-Breunner is a daughter of Prince Karl and his wife Countess Henriette von Meran, a morganatic branche of the Imperial Family of Austria.
There is a nice report in the paper edition of the German magazine Bunte this week. The magazine mentions that they had planned to get married in 2020 already, but only celebrated their civil wedding at the time. Their daughter Princess Hilda was born in February 2021 and attended the religious wedding of her parents.
