Only a few weeks ago it was discovered that Prince Heinrich of Bavaria was going to marry Henriette Gruse on 22 April 2017 at Kloster Andechs. The weather on Saturday was a bit cold and windy, but at least it didn’t rain.
The groom Prince Heinrich of Bavaria was born in Landsberg am Lech on 23 January 1986 as the second son and fourth child of Prince Luitpold of Bavaria and his wife Beatrix née Wiegand. Henriette Gruse was born on 26 December 1982. The couple met through one of their common hobbies: sailing.
The bride looked lovely in a lace dress. She was driven to church in an oldtimer cabriolet, and was accompanied by her brother. Among the flower children were the groom’s niece Princess Olivia von Auersperg and nephew Prince Louis-Ferdinand zur Lippe-Weissenfeld.
After the wedding a reception was held at the “Furstentrakt” of the monastery, that has been the venue of Bavarian royal weddings already several times.
The wedding celebration however ended with a tiny problem. When they wanted to go, the car wasn’t there yet. Bride and groom were just left waiting and the groom was seen making a phonecall. The bride – probably having enough of carrying around her bridal bouquet – let one of the knights hold it. In case you wonder about all the knights (there were quite a few) present, Prince Heinrich nowadays is the managing director for events at the family castle Kaltenberg, that also yearly organizes a Knight’s Tournament. The evening party took place at the Yacht Club Starnberg.
Among the guests were Duke Franz of Bavaria, Duke Max in Bavaria, Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria and Daniel Terberger, Princess Ursula of Bavaria, Prince Manuel and Princess Anna of Bavaria, Princess Felipa of Bavaria (seven-months pregnant) and Christian Dienst, Prince Konstantin of Bavaria and his girlfriend, Prince Wolfgang of Bavaria, the Duchess of Bragança, Count Hans-Kaspar von Toerring-Jettenbach with his wife, the Duke of Croÿ, and many others. All in total there were about 220 people invited for the wedding.
I don’t see Karl, the youngest brother, in any photos of his sisters’ marriages or his brother’s marriage. Or any social occasion. But I think he was photographed at the time. He was also a Dr (holding a doctorate).
Is the publicity shy prince ever present at these family events but just not photographed?
