In the past years I almost had to search for some King’s Day related shop windows. This year, not unexpectedly, the city of Groningen has already turned into festive mood. Of course King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima and their family are coming to celebrate the day in Groningen. The business association Groningen City Club holds a competition and lots of shops and businesses have done their utmost best to decorate their windows as good as possible. Lots of red-white-blue-orange, but also lovely old photos of royal visits to Groningen in the past.
After seeing pictures in the local newspapers online last week I decided to go for a long walk on Sunday to have a look myself. Not all pictures turned out well, but on this page a selection of what is there.
Below a subtile decoration on the left at Yantra, I just love the hugging statue being decorated with capes and masks.
On the right below the former District Court, with behind the windows the pictures of the King and Queen, and the text “Nieuw Paleis Nodig? Kaw.nl” (Need a new Palace? Kaw.nl).
