When you think about royals and dancing the first thing that comes to mind is glittering balls, and royal ladies wearing huge ballgowns and sparkling jewels. It is not that surprising that two royals recently agreed to participate in dance contest on tv. Unfortunately I only could see Princess Delphine dancing in a few online videos, but I hope to see a bit more of the show with Princess Lilly.
Princess Delphine
The newest Belgian Princess, Delphine (53), debuted with her professional dance partner Sander Bos in “Dancing with the stars” on the Belgian channel Play 4. In December 2021 and January 2022 she took part in four episodes, until she was eliminated. She was the third person to leave the program. While she declined taking part two years ago, she now said “yes”, because she wanted to challenge herself. The main reason however was the possibility to raise awareness for the charity Make-A-Wish. She danced for the 12-year-old Adam, a courageous who due to leukemia treatment wasn’t able to see family and friends for a year and a half. She said not to have significant dance experience, but said she really enjoyed working with her coach Sander Bos and other professional coaches, choreographers and technical teams. Delphine’s first dance was a Viennese waltz.
Princess Lilly
In Germany the show Let’s Dance 2022 will start on Friday 18 February, 8.15pm at RTL+. Among the 14 candidates is Princess Lilly zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. the first wife of Fürst Alexander zu Schaumburg-Lippe. Nearly 50 years old, she is the mother of a son and a daughter. She stated to RTL:
“The best present I can imagine for 2022 is to finally learn to dance properly. It’s a childhood dream come true for me. I am really looking forward to the whole team, the jury and I am so excited to finally meet my dance partner. I will definitely give my all in training.”
Prince Emanuele Filiberto
They are however not the first royals taking part in the dance show. Already in 2009 Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, Prince of Venice, took part in the Italian show “Ballando Con Le Stelle”. He and his dancing partner Natalia Titova won the contest, and he was the first man in the five-year history of the program to win with 75 % of the tele voters.
