These (British) royals were born in Windsor

On Monday 6 May 2019 at 5.26am a new descendant of the British royal family was born. Although the little son of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be entitled to use the title Earl of Dumbarton or could have been styled as Lord .. Mountbatten-Windsor, his parents have decided otherwise. He will for now not be known by any title. Archie Harrison got some rather unusual names in the royal world too. It is still not 100% certain whether he was born in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor (as thought at first), or at a hospital (the Portland Hospital?) in London, as it was not in the initial announcement and we only heard about the Duchess of Sussex being in labour after the birth. A hospital is most likely, but needs to be confirmed.

If born at Windsor, he would have been in the company of a rather long list of royals being born in or around this royal residence, that was built already around 1070. There could be more, but surely in the Middle Ages the court travelled a lot, and often it is not clear where births took place. Some births even took place abroad. There were actually lots of royal palaces at the time, each generation having its favourites. Over the years Windsor might have become too oldfashioned, while other palaces and houses were more modern. My genealogy once in a while gives various places where someone might have been born. Welcome in the world of early genealogy … these are the ones who at least according to my notes certainly were born at Windsor (Castle).

  1. A little correction. The mother of Arthur was not Alexandra Duchess of Fife but Princess Luise Margarethe of Prussia
