I have to put plans to visit the new Emperor Wilhelm II exhibition at Palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, on hold, at least until early December. I was planning to visit either this or next weekend, but my sister had her 40th birthday. And I suddenly have other – and even more interesting plans for the next weekend. It involves a Christmas market, a castle and a real prince. I won’t reveal more yet, but I am sure it will be a huge surprise for all of you.
Anyway because of my sister’s birthday I at last managed to have a look at the complete Maria Louise painting on the wall around the corner of the Princessehof in Leeuwarden (see the Maria Louise year) And in between the rain showers found a short time without rain to take a few photos. Probably not the best colours with yesterday’s weather – I even saw some wet snow in the evening – but it certainly looks great. Of course the lady is Maria Louise and the man is her husband Johan Willem Friso, Prince of Orange. Below them a short family tree showing how the ten monarchs of Europe (apart from Andorra and Vatican City of course) descend from this couple.
